One more day, one more scandal at the European Commission. This time, it's an "ICT Task Force" claiming to represent small-to-medium (SME) IT businesses, producing a report that calls for software patents. Guess who the authors of the report are? Microsoft, BSA, and SAP. Oh, and just to make sure they followed the patent party line, the European Patent Office (EPO) also lent a hand. The FFII has a press release denouncing the affair. The wider context is, of course, the patent industry's push for a harmonised European patent system that would finally mean software patents in Europe, after six years of resistance. Better late than never.
