"China has selected the homegrown DRA standard as its national audio coding standard, domestic media reported on April 19. The DRA standard is for the coding of audio for digital TV transmissions. Use of the standard will allow Chinese companies to avoid the relatively high licensing fees charged by the patent holders of foreign standards. "The development of audio coding technology is a key project in the State Council's stimulus program for the electronics and IT industry. The government will fund the industrialization of the standard to avoid high patent fees charged by foreign audio coding standard developers," Chinese industry portal Sina cited Lou Qinjian, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, as saying on April 19."
