Summary:
Microsoft doesn't make a habit of filing lawsuits over patent violations. In fact, Redmond has only done so twice in the past, and both cases were settled. That might be the outcome of this week's actions against TomTom as well. Or perhaps Microsoft hasn't really seen the Linux light, and this is the beginning a deliberate legal offensive against open source. [...] Because three of the patents in question are based on Linux technology, Microsoft's action has raised hackles in the open source More about open source community. Suspicions are rampant that the software giant is making an about-face from its recent softening toward Linux and has decided to launch a stealth attack using this lawsuit as a back door.
