Great news. I personally think that software patents are ridiculous, and too much of this nonsense has been going around. the software patents should be trashed. nscrouplous companies have been getting away with thier lies.
—-
software reviews

According to the German news-site Heise, the patent application will be withdrawn and MS apologizes:
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/84439 (German)

The digg link was broken. Here is a working link.
http://www.bluej.org/mrt/?p=21

I don't know bluej and the stuff MS wants to patent. I only can give the pretty lame advice to
a) collect any prior art you can lay hands on and see if you can find any non-digtal evidence (paper articels…)
b) let the patent examiners know about the prior art

Microsoft is attempting to patent the Object Bench functionality of the Blue J (www.bluej.org) program…… is there any way we can stop this?

This affects also the E-BOB (Eclipse IDE plugin) and the free software world, we cannot let microsoft patent things like this, it could destroy bluej and bluej is amazing software.

Ed
